Medical Guardian at a Glance

A part of the medical alert community since 2005, this American-based company offers five different medical alert options: three for those who spend most of their time at home and two for those who spend more time outside their home. In-home systems come with a base station and a wearable, water-resistant emergency button. This button can be clipped to a belt loop or comes on a wristband or necklace. The mobile systems offer only a necklace or belt loop option.

Every product has a monthly service fee and will reliably call and connect you or your loved one with the 24/7 monitoring center. Dispatchers then offer the help you need or will contact emergency services for you.

Features and Usability

We Like

All Medical Guardian products are water-resistant and include 2-way voice. Fall detection can be added to most plans for an extra $10 per month. Additional pendants, mounted emergency wall buttons, and voice-activated buttons can also be added to your plan.

We Don’t Like

  • No Pill Reminder Option
Medical Guardian doesn’t offer any medication reminders.
  • Faulty Fall Detection
Many customers report having trouble with their medical alarm device registering things like sitting down quickly or dropping the device as a fall.

FAQs

Is my cellphone service compatible with Medical Guardian?
Medical Guardian operates independently of your cellphone, so which wireless carrier you use doesn’t matter.

Will my insurance cover Medical Guardian?
Medicare does not cover medical alert systems, and most insurance providers will not either. To be sure though, you should call your representative for more details.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my services?
Yes, you can since there is no contract required with Medical Guardian and many of their products work interchangeably. But if you are going from an in-home only plan to a mobile medical alert plan, you will most likely need new buttons.

Is my spouse covered by Medical Guardian too?
Each Medical Guardian device is meant to be used only for one person. However, the Family Guardian option allows for multiple devices to work with the same base.

Is Medical Guardian water-resistant?
Yes, this is a standard feature on most medical alert devices. They are designed to be worn in the shower or bath because many falls happen there.

The Bottom Line
